Hoxie's Varsity Scholar's Bowl Participated in the Cowboy Classic
Hoxie High School took the varsity team to the Cowboys Classic Varsity Invitational Scholars’ Bowl Tournament on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Hoxie’s team consisted of Troy Swint, Adam Heim, Elyssa Rucker, Maddy Snyder, Wes Reuber, and Brenden Cook. The team took 3rd place at the tournament. They were defeated by Syracuse who placed 2nd, and Sharon Springs-Wallace who placed 1st. Other schools that participated in the tournament were Brewster, Colby, Cheylin, St. Francis - teams 1 and 2, Oakley, Quinter, Golden Plains - teams 1 and 2, and Goodland - teams 1 and 2. Hoxie’s top three high scorers were Troy Swint with 230 points, Elyssa Rucker and Maddy Snyder both with 130 points.
Coach Jackie Campbell commented, “The team did a great job. In their first-round they had a tie-breaker with Oakley and lost 60-70, their only loss for Pool A. They beat the undefeated team Syracuse 90-60 which placed them first in their pool and moved them into finals. They then matched up with Wallace which was the 2nd place team in Pool 2 and lost 50-70. Hoxie then went head to head with Quinter for 3rd and 4th place and beat them 80-40 and ended up overall with third place.
The next high school scholars’ bowl tournament is on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Hill City.
