The Hoxie High School Scholars’ Bowl team traveled to Rolla, KS for the Division I Regional Scholars’ Bowl Tournament on Feb. 5.  The team consists of senior Lisa Stone, junior Tabor Rucker, sophomores Noah Smith, Skyler Denio, and Jacob Munk, and freshmen Darion Meyer.  The Hoxie team was the runner up, which qualified them for the State Tournament.

The regional competition was round-robin made up with eleven teams: Dighton, Ingalls, Jetmore-Hodgeman County, La Crosse, Minneola, Quinter, Rolla, Satanta, St. Francis, Tribune-Greeley County, and Hoxie.  Hoxie ended their rounds of competition with seven wins and three losses to Dighton, Rolla, and Santanta.   Jacob Munk was the high scorer with 200 points, Skyler Denio and Darion Meyer both came in with the second highest with 80 points each.  At the conclusion of the round robin, Satanta placed third, Hoxie second, and Rolla first.  This is Hoxie’s third year in a row making it into the State Tournament.

The State Tournament, which is a 1A Division I championship tournament was held Feb.14 at Lost Springs-Centre High School in Lost Springs.  The tournament was in a round robin format with twelve teams split into two pools.  Each team played five rounds with the top three teams from both pools advancing to the semifinal competition.  Hoxie’s team did not advance.

“Even though we did not advance, making it to State is a great achievement.  I’m proud of them for making it this far,” said Scholars Bowl coach Jackie Campbell, “We have a young team and many of them will be returning and hopefully making it for a fourth time to State.  We will miss our senior, Lisa, next year.”
