WELLNESS POLICY COMMITTEE MINUTES- September 6, 2017

The USD #412 Wellness Policy Committee met in the USD #412 District Office at 7:45 am

PRESENT - Darla Zerr, Diane Stithem, Lichelle Baar, Jim Howard

MEMBERS ABSENT  – Liz Zerr, Mandy Shipley, Jacelyn White, Jeanita Losey, Dalene Oelke.

Darla called the meeting to order.

ADDITIONS TO AND APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA: 

The agenda for this meeting:

            1) Wellness Coaching Sessions report 2017-2018

2) Wellness Policy updates 2017-2018

3) Wellness Policy goals for 2017-2018

4) Wellness Impact Tool for 2017-2018

5) Wellness Policy Committee members 2017-2018

 

RECOGNITION OF GUESTS:  

No guests were present.

COMMUNICATIONS TO THE COUNCIL:

Lichelle reported that we have been approved to host the Body Venture program at the GS this year.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:

Darla moved to approve the minutes of the January 2017 meeting.  Diane seconded the motion.  Motion carried. 

REPORTS:

Food Service Director’s Report-

The state has not made any changes to the foods and beverages sold or served at the schools to meet nutrition recommendations and guidelines. Smart Snacks in School “All Food Sold in School” Standards are the guidelines USD 412 follows to be in compliance with the state standards.

AGENDA ITEMS –

1) Darla reported about the visit by the Wellness coach in February 2016.  This was the second coaches meeting with us. She gave suggestions to assistance the Wellness committee to meet goals and/or make goals for 2017-2018.

2) Committee discussed updates to the 2017-2018 policy. Updates were to add applying for the Body Venture program during 2017-2018 to the policy.  The policy will be presented to the school board for approval at the June 2017 BOE meeting.

3) Committee discussed goals for 2017-2018.

            a) Increase nutritional education during PE classes.

            b) Increase nutritional education during regular classes.

c) Update nutritional information to parents for treats and snacks provided for class activities and parties.

d) Body Venture program at the GS.

e) Dalene Oelke, FACS teacher, shared with Darla that she will be teaching My Plate to 7-12 grades and Lead 2 Feed to FCCLA members 9-12 grades.IT will teach the importance of Food & Health.  It will reach out to the community and the local Food Pantry.  FCCLA will help with Body Venture and 7-12 grade students will help with Read and Run and Hoxie Recreation Fun day in the Spring.

 

4) Wellness Policy Committee: No new members for 2017-2018.

5) Wellness Impact Tool was completed by Darla and Diane for 2017. Meeting Adjourned at 8:00 am. Next Wellness Policy Committee Meeting – April 30, 2018 @ 7:45 am @ GS
