On Saturday, October 31st, the Hoxie Indian boys' and girls' cross country teams traveled to Wamego to compete at the state meet. The girls brought home a 2nd-place plaque, placing higher than in the previous two years. The boys' team finished 6th.
All of the girls placed in the top 70 out of 100 runners. Three of the Hoxie girls placed in the top 15 and medaled individually. (So) Brylie Lindenman led the team, finishing in 9th (20:21.96). Following close behind was (Fr) Jenna Herl in 10th (20:27.43) and (Fr) Aubrey Diericks in 12th (20:39.19). Placing 48th, (So) Bailynn Moser had a really good finish and beat the next runner by 0.01 of a second. (So) Kansas Tso placed 57th (22:54.61), (Sr) Emily Farber placed 66th (23:10.58), and close behind was (Jr) Lillie Denio in 69th (23:29.28). For the previous 2 years, the girls have brought home 3rd place, but this year they made a turnaround and earned an impressive 2nd place, being so close to 1st with only 10 points.
The Hoxie boys all placed in the top 75 out of 109 total runners. (Jr) Nathan Haffner led the boys team in 38th (18:18.60) with (Sr) Gunner Wente close behind in 40th (18:19.90). Next came (So) Kooper Moss in 48th (18:27.00) and then (Sr) Gabe Koster in 70th (18:58.50) with (Jr) Ty Fenner following not far behind in 73rd (19:02.40). In the previous years, the whole boys team hasn’t made it to state, but this year, the boys pulled through and made it together.
The hard work and determination of the Indians really paid off. Both teams finished off the season with a strong showing at state.
