Grammar –  adjectives

We will understand that color words are adjectives that describe nouns.

Reading

Comprehension: cause and effect

Phonics:  the sound of ar as in arm

Spelling:  words spelled with ar

Math – Money

Children will:

  • Learn coin and dollar bill relationships.
  • Apply money concepts to find the value of a group of coins.
  • Apply addition and subtraction to money amounts.
  • Develop and apply problem solving skills.

Counting mixed coins is always a first grade challenge.  They do so well when the coins are alike, but they are easily thrown when we mix things up.  If you ever have a moment this would be a great thing to practice.

Math Vocabulary

penny     dollar     nickel     penny     quarter     cents 

Social Studies –   Citizenship 

Children will:

  • Identify characteristics of good citizenship as demonstrated by ordinary people.
  • Identify different kinds of groups.
  • Explain the need for groups to have rules.
  • Summarize what it means to belong to a group.

 

Science – Energy Everywhere

  • Describe different sources of energy and heat.
  • How do people use energy?
  • What are some different types of energy?
  • What is heat?

We didn’t get to this last week.  We were having too much fun with the magnets.  We will get to energy this week.
