SCHOLARSHIPS

Dane G. Hansen Educational Scholarships:  To qualify for these scholarships, students must have earned a 3.50 GPA, have an ACT composite of 21 or higher, be participants in extra-curricular and community activities and displayed good citizenship, leadership and moral integrity.  The Hansen Scholarship Test will be given on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Student Union on the Colby Community College campus.  If you are interested in taking this test, stop by the counseling office and sign up by September 2, 2010.

 

Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Program:  This is a recognition program for high school seniors who have at least a “B” average and are participating in at least one high school sport. For more information, visit www.wendysheisman.comNominations Deadline is October 3, 2010.

 

2008-09 Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology:  This competition is sponsored by the Siemens Foundation and will award over $100,000 in college scholarships.  This competition rewards students for developing and demonstrating their talent for scientific research.  For more information, see the poster on the board outside the counseling office or visit www.siemens-foundation.orgApplication Deadline is October 1, 2010 at 5:00 PM EST.

 

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Program:  The Horatio Alger Association will award more than $12 million in scholarships and grants.  To apply for these scholarships and grants, a student must show financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  For more information and an application, visit www.horatioalger.com/scholarshipsApplication Deadline is October 30, 2010.

 

Dane G. Hansen Vocational Scholarships:  To qualify for this scholarship, a student must be planning on attending a vocational/technical school or a community college in Kansas.  Applicants do not have to take the Hansen Scholarship Test or have a minimum GPA.  Applications are available in the counseling office.  Application Deadline is November 2, 2010.

 

Barton School of Business’ Allen, Gibbs & Houlik L.C. Scholarship Competition:

This scholarship competition sponsored by Wichita State University will award scholarship ranging up to $44,000.  To be eligible to compete, the student must have a 3.5 GPA, a 24 composite ACT, declare a business major, complete the “Yes, I wish to compete” form and be admitted to WSU by October 1.  For more information, contact Kate Kung-McIntyre at (316) 978-3200 or visit www.wichita.edu/barton. Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering:  This scholarship competition sponsored by Wichita State University will award scholarship ranging from $10,000 to $15,000.  To be eligible, students must be interested in the following engineering majors:  aerospace, computer, electrical, industrial, manufacturing or mechanical.  In addition, you must have a 3.00 GPA and have submitted an official high school transcript and signed up at www.wichita.edu/wise   Application Deadline is November 12, 2010.

 

School of Music Scholarship Invitational:  Wichita State University School of Music offers annual vocal, instrumental and keyboard scholarships to talented individuals.  These scholarships range from $3,000 to $20,000 for four years of study.  To be eligible you must have a 3.0 GPA, be admitted to WSU by October 1, and declare a music major.  For more information, visit www.wichita.edu/musicscholarships. Distinguished Scholarship Invitational:  This scholarship competition sponsored by Wichita State University will award scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $48,000.  To be considered for an invitation to the competition, the student must have a 3.50 GPA, a 24 composite ACT and be admitted to WSU by October 1.  For more information contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-362-2594 or stop by the counseling office.  Application Deadline is November 13, 2010.

 

K-State Civic Leadership Scholarships:  KSU will offer three Civic Leadership Scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $2,000.  To qualify for these scholarships, you must be admitted to KSU and have demonstrated an exemplary record of community service.  For more information, call (785) 532-6218 or visit www.k-state.edu/nss/scholarshipsApplication Deadline is December 13, 2010.

SENIOR/VISITATION DAYS/IMPORTANT DATES

KSU Senior Day:  Western Kansas Senior day will be held on Friday, October 29.  The day is designed to allow seniors the opportunity to discuss their academic interest with KSU faculty members, tour the campus and hear about financial aid and scholarships offered by KSU.  For more information and to register, visit www.consider.k-state.edu/seniors

The following college/university representatives will be visiting Hoxie High School from 12:20 to 12:46.

 

Kansas State University – Wednesday, September 1

Garden City Community College – Thursday, October 7

Fort Hays State University – Wednesday, October 20

 

If you would like to visit with one of these reps, you will need to sign the sign-up sheet in the counseling office.  You will not be allowed to attend if you have not signed up.
