Transportation Changes for 2010-2011 School Year

The Board of Education, administration, and staff have conversed and worked hard to overcome the state budget crisis and to do so in the least restrictive way for student achievement. Academic success of our students is our first priority and we have again, according to preliminary results, made AYP as mandated by federal regulations. Our goal is to continue to move forward and to constantly implement new interventions to ensure all our students are making progress.
Hoxie USD #412 has been fortunate to maintain the educational programs that we currently have in existence. Many districts have not had this luxury because of the reduction in state aid. It is our goal to be able to continue with all our programs to ensure a variety of activities and opportunities for students. Therefore, we try to reduce expenditures to make this a reality.
The state reimburses district transportation costs for students who live farther than 2.5 miles from the building they attend. We do not receive transportation funding for anyone inside this 2.5 mile radius. The administration along with board approval has elected to not transport students inside the 2.5 mile radius. This will save an estimated $30,000 dollars. This was a tough decision and we realize it will be an inconvenience to some of you.
Hoxie Community Schools has dedicated teachers, support staff, administrators, and Board of Education members who will continue working hard to provide students with the best academic opportunities. Our priority is to do what is best for students and keep academics and our support programs strong.
Thank you so much for supporting our district and our decision.
