Health Information From the School Nurse

by Lisa Stoll, School Nurse

Message from School Nurse, Lisa Stoll -

There has been a lot of talk about the H1N1 virus in the news lately.  This virus has very similar symptoms to the seasonal flu.  It is spread through respiratory secretions and is not prevented by the seasonal flu shot.

There are steps that are critical in prevention of the spread of this virus.

1.  Good hand washing is a must.  Wash your hands for 20 seconds and use warm water.  Wash hands frequently.

2.  Encourage your children to cough into their sleeves or tissues and dispose of the tissues as soon as possible.

3.  If your child has symptoms of illness accompanied by a temperature, please keep them home and contact your physician.

4.  Keep your child healthy by encouraging them to eat a balanced diet, to drink plenty of water and to get plenty of exercise and sleep.

The school system is also continuing to do their part in prevention of the spread of germs, by their daily sanitization of the school and monitoring of signs and symptoms of illness in students and staff.  Please call if you have any questions.
