Read Across America/Scholastic Book Fair
“Reading Roadtrip”
March 3 – 13, 2008
Our students at Hoxie Grade School will travel the country on a Reading Roadtrip!
A road will be displayed on the wall outside the office with mile markers/points of interest. Students will “travel” down the road by reading books and placing footprints on the road. As we “arrive” at the various destinations, our principal, Mr. Hoyt, will reward the students by dressing up as a Tacky Tourist!
Each child will help us reach our destination by placing a footprint on our road for each book or specific amount of time spent reading. Younger students will bring home a footprint each day. Simply write your child’s name and the title of a book that you read together on the footprint and send it back to school. Older students may be reading longer books that they cannot finish as quickly, they will fill out one footprint each day for their nightly reading assignment by placing their name, the name of the book and the pages read. Each footprint placed on the road equals one mile.
In addition to this activity, we also have other fun things to do each day to celebrate reading! Make sure you read ahead – some of the days require a little planning!!
